Personal project
Sponge Holder
- Problem
- Design a 3D-printed sponge holder with a working drainage system that is convenient to use.
- Date
- Dec 2025 – Jan 2026
- Tools
- SolidWorks, 3D printing (PLA, PETG)
- Result
- Easy-to-use holder that drains directly into the sink without leaving water on the counter

Design process
- Measured the sponge and used the dimensions to create a 3D model in SolidWorks.
- Printed models in two materials, PETG and PLA.
- PETG has better temperature and water resistance, so it is the better material for the final product.
- PLA prints much faster but does not handle long-term water exposure. It is best for quick prototypes here.
- Iterated on the first model to improve performance.
- Increased the size of the basin to make the sponge easier to remove.
- Added a hook that wraps around the edge of the counter so the holder does not move and water does not spill.
Result
- A functional, easy-to-use sponge holder that drains directly into my sink without leaving water on the counter.
